The Meteorological Services Department has advised the public to “exercise extreme caution” over the coming days, as the country is forecasted to experience heavy rains with potential hailstorms in some areas.
According to the department, these first rains will spread across the country, accompanied by “hailstorms, lightning, and heavy winds,” urging residents to be vigilant.
“We have a cloud band which entered the country from the west into Matabeleland and Bulawayo. It brought some rains which are now spreading across the country, with some areas in Bulawayo receiving over 107 millimeters of rain, while areas in Harare received over 100 mm,” stated Mr. Maketa, a meteorologist.
The department has reaffirmed the nation’s optimistic outlook for a fruitful rainy season, noting, “the season is still promising good rains which must bring relief to the country following the El NiƱo-induced drought last year.”
Farmers are encouraged to take advantage of the rains by intensifying land preparations and planting.
