Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Dr. Takavafira Zhou has distanced himself and the organisation from a fake news article that is making rounds in WhatsApp groups.

Dr. Zhou said the article if 100 percent fabrication and that suspects it was made with intentions to discredit PTUZ.

Tateguru TV is privy to this information after a telephone interview with Dr Zhou on July 19, 2021.

“That story is fake and we have no knowledge of such COVID-19 cases in our Mberengwa membership.

The originator of the article never interviewed me or the Secretary General on the topic,” said Dr Zhou.

PTUZ is currently searching for the originator of the article using their networks and structures.

” We are also working with the police to find the source because this is damaging to the reputation of the organisation,” added Dr Zhou.

The Article which has no byline alleges that 50 Mberengwa rural teachers had bren admitted into Munene Mission Hospital with breathing problems.

The article goes on to claim these fictional teachers were also vaccinated both first and second jabs of Sinopharm.

An inside source at the Munene Mission Hospital has confirmed that the story is a hoax.

“The COVID-19 cases that have been recorded in recently were all hospital staff, not Teachers.

Patient zero who the staff contracted the virus from was not a teacher too,” added the source who would not divulge more on the cases.

Government has continued to urge people above the age of 18 to get vaccinated.
The death toll nationwide is at a daily average of 50 people with the surge credited to the deadly new Delta Variant.
