The Chamakudo Irrigation Scheme, a key agricultural development in Mberengwa district, has reached 58% completion.

Initiated in 2021, the project has made significant strides, including the installation of irrigation pivots, the laying of essential pipelines, land clearing, the construction of a weir, and the establishment of a pump house with the necessary pumps.

Spanning 209 hectares, the scheme is set to feature 11 irrigation pivots, with the largest covering 50 hectares. Once completed, the project is expected to bring substantial benefits to Ward 23, directly impacting 360 local residents.

Despite the progress, some critical tasks remain, such as electrifying the facility and installing a conveyance pipeline from the Mundi River to the agricultural fields.
The tendering process for the remaining work is still underway.
