It is not the most fanned of flames among topics in discourse, but water scarcity is a serious reality in peri-urban and rural Zimbabwe.
It sits on the same hill as mulnutrition and unemployment as they all bow to their chieftain, Poverty.
Poverty`s reign will not be long as Government has a well drawn out plan of making sure the livelihood of Zimbabweans improves for the better.
In the spirit of leaving no place and no one behind the Second Republic has rolled out financing for various projects that will work towards capacity building and connecting public services with the people.
This entails the Community Development Funds and Devolution Funds that National Treasury has availed to all Urban and Rural Councils for the decentralised community specific utilisation.
Communities in Masvingo Peri-urban Manyama area along Masvingo Beitbridge Road, have chosen Water as the first item to tick off their list of needs.
The area is characterized by dry stretches of land that were previously free roaming cattle ranches and game reserves.
Little to no human settlement preparation was done there until the Land resettlement.

Villages have sprouted with communities sprouting and spreading over a limited number of water sources.
To add to the human population influx in the resettlement area, artisanal gold mining activities began two years ago and the area has become a haven for many young families trying to get a new start.
Resultantly people have suffered the cost of travelling long distances in search of clean water for consumption while old man made water holes were being used to extract “Chimufuku” water for laundry and other domestic use.
With the coming in of the Second Republic and it’s all-benefiting and all-encompassing policies some change is coming to this area.
Private Public Partnerhsips are bearing fruits in Masvingo as Government and Tzu Chi Foundation have partnered in availing clean and safe water for communities in Ward 10 though the drilling of boreholes.
Most recently in Manyama Area at Ruvhure Secondary School, a borehole was commissioned.
Speaking at the commissioning, Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Cde Ezra Chadzamira told the recipients of the Borehole present that
“President Mnangagwa has emphasised that improved access to basic services in a collaborative effort that calls for participation by Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as the Private Sector, Non-Governmental Organisations and Development Partners,” said Cde Chadzamira.
Through Devolution and CDF funds, Government has completed the following projects;
Ruvhure Secondary School Block, Bhani Business Centre Borehole, Muonde Borehole, Chitenderere Borehole, Vusango Village Borehole, Block of Gwengavi Primary School, Solar Borehole at Village 20, Solar Borehole at Village 32 E. Vengesai, Mukonde Primary School Block, Mukonde Secondary Couple Block and Transformer Manyama Business Centre.
In partnership with Tzu Chi Foundation, the following projects have been completed ;
Ruvhure Secondary School Borehole, Ward 7 Village Machokoto Borehole, Ward 7 Village 15 Mushandike, Ward 9 Village 7 Mushandike, Ward 12 Copa Business Centre Borehole.
ZANUPF Deputy Provincial Chairman Cde Trust Mugabe told TateguruTV that it is imperative that these growing communities with the rural and peri-urban areas be considered in policy implementation as they house many citizens who depend on their Government for assistance.
“We thank President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Second Republic for remembering this marginalised community as they had gone for a long time without access to water.
This borehole and many other infrastructural developments being done in the area are testament to his policy of leaving no one and no place behind,” said Cde Mugabe.
