District Development Coordinator for Gokwe South, Ms Netsai Mushauri, on Monday launched the Presidential Livestock Feed Distribution Programme at Manoti GMB depot where 300 farmers received silage as supplement feed for their cattle.
The introduction of the programme comes at an appropriate time when most pastures in the district are fast depleting and are in a poor state due to the El-Nino induced drought. In addition, the feed comes as a supplementary to improve the overall wellbeing of local herd and to avert cattle loss due to drought.
More stockfeed, including hay bales, are expected to be distributed to all farmers throughout the district, with each farmer expected to receive enough stock feed for all their cattle.
Gokwe South district has a cattle herd of approximately 215 000 and will need close to 516 metric tonnes of supplementary stock feed between now and December when pastures star.
