Tateguru Writer

On Friday thousands of villages gathered at Mr Pfarimwa Matimura`s homestead in Ward 22 (Nyatsato) of Rushinga.

The glorious gathering marked the first round of Mashonaland Central disbursements under the Presidential Goat Scheme.

Director Livestock Production and Development Alban Mhindurwa presided over the event as the Guest of Honour.

About 200 goats were handed out during the event, while others were seen arriving in vehicles for distribution afterwards.

The programme is in two phases, with 500 goats being distributed at each phase.

These goats are to be equally distributed in all 24 wards of Rushinga district.

Mr Mhindurwa told the small scale farmers who had gathered for the event that the Presidential Rural Poultry and Goat Schemes intents to improve household nutrition and increased incomes through commercialization production.

Livestock has proven to be a pivotal subsector within the agricultural sector.

It is the anchor upon which the national development goals, particularly the National Development Strategy and Vision 2030 is premised on.

This development shows President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s committed to improve livelihoods of vulnerable communities.

Each vulnerable beneficiary household received a doe, each village head a dock and a buck to service other goats in the village while each Headman received two bucks and Chiefs received three bucks.

The remaining goats were set aside for vulnerable families, such as women headed and child headed families.

On the sidelines of the event, some villagers were hopeful that Government delivers on the promised goats.

In its full-scale the Presidential Goat Scheme Program 10 000 goats have been allocated for all the eight districts in Mashonaland Central.
