President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to officially launch the country`s first Marula processing plant at Rutenga Growth Point in Mwenezi.
The opening, slated for October 25 will kick start the operationalization of the multi-million-dollar plant that will be producing the liquor.
The plant is the initiative of the National Biotechnology Authority of Zimbabwe, which falls under the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology.
It is expected to boost employment creation, as it was constructed to benefit the local people – raw materials for the liquor will be sourced from within Mwenezi.
The value addition principle, on which the operation is anchored, speaks to the country`s Vision 2030.
Market testing products from the plant were exhibited at the recently held Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, held in Bulawayo where the Mwenezi Rural District Council (RDC) exhibited the natural Marula liquor.
The project started 2021 January after engagement of different stakeholders.
A team of officers from Government, NBA and other departments, assessed the building last week and they were satisfied that the plant is ready to open.
The NDS1 recognises that the key link to structural transformation is value addition and beneficiation of agricultural products, Marula Processing Plant is a living example of this strategy.
