President Cde E.D Mnangagwa has sent a condolence message to families of the nine accident victims who died in an accident 217 kilometres along the Harare-Mutare Highway on April 7 2021.
The accident came a day after the end of the Easter holidays and was the most fatal crash in the week.
Nine people were killed and several others injured in a road accident between Rusape and Mutare on Wednesday.
The tragedy overshadowed what had passed as a relatively peaceful Easter Holiday for the country.
President Mnangagwa described how he was saddened to learn that most of the victims from the accident were members of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Collaborators Association (ZILWACO) who were on their way to Mutare for a scheduled association meeting.
“Our country cannot afford to lose precious lives needlessly through road accidents the majority of which are attributable to human error. Life is sacrosanct and every one of us has a duty to respect and safeguard it,” said President Mnangagwa.
President Mnangagwa appealed to all motorists and road users to exercise extreme caution on the roads in order to avoid loss of life through road carnage.
