Harare – In a heartfelt message, His Excellency, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa expressed profound sorrow and sadness over the passing of Retired Justice Selo Masole Nare, who died on Saturday, September 30, 2024, in South Africa. Justice Nare served as the former Chairperson of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) and as a Labour Court Judge.
In a condolence message, President Mnangagwa praised Justice Nare’s unwavering commitment to Zimbabwe in the fields of law and education. He described the late Justice as a dedicated and diligent civil servant and judicial officer whose contributions will be forever remembered.
Justice Nare began his career in education, serving as a primary school teacher in the Midlands and Matabeleland South provinces. He later transitioned to the legal field, joining the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) as a court interpreter. Through dedication and hard work, he rose through the ranks to become a magistrate and eventually a Labour Court Judge.
In 2018, President Mnangagwa appointed Justice Nare as qChairperson of the NPRC, entrusting him with the crucial task of promoting peace and reconciliation in the country. He also co-convened the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD), a platform that brought together various political parties and leaders who participated in the 2018 Harmonised General Elections.
“He served our Nation with characteristic diligence and maturity, always giving his utmost until his retirement last year,” the President’s message read. “He will be fondly missed by our Nation.”
The President lauded Justice Nare’s characteristic diligence and maturity, noting his unwavering dedication to serving the nation until his retirement last year. He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Nare family, especially to Mrs. Nare and their children, on behalf of the ZANU-PF party, the government, his family, and himself.
