His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa has commiserated with the Nyathi family following the death of Cde Pathisa Nyathi, who died Saturday 2 November 2024.
President Mnangagwa described Cde Nyathi as a hardworking, loyal and dedicated educationist veteran who strived for national development.
In a statement this Monday, President Mnangagwa said the news of the death of Cde Nyathi came as a shock.
“I received the sad news of the passing on this last Saturday of Cde Pathisa Nyathi with a very heavy heart, utter sense of shock and deep sorrow,” said President Mnangagwa.
The President, describing the late Nyathi, said he had felt “proud and overwhelmed by the sheer fervency of his commitment to the reconstruction of our National Heritage which he felt had been assaulted and injured by countless colonial narratives.”
Earlier this year, Cde Nyathi had been assigned, together with Reverend Paul Damasane, to document the heroic Pupu Battle National Resistance against British colonial encroachment.
The late Pathisa Nyathi leaves behind numerous path-breaking publications on Zimbabwe’s past.
President Mnangagwa applauded the late Cde Nyathi for his influence in the society.
“A veteran educationist who specialized in teaching Science and Mathematics, Cde Nyathi raised many professionals who today occupy positions of influence in our society,” added President Mnangagwa.
“On behalf of the Party, Zanu PF, Government, our Nation, my Family and on my behalf, I wish to express my deepest, heartfelt condolences to the Nyathi Family, especially to the late departed’s children who now stand doubly orphaned , having lost Umama a few years back.”
The President directed that the late Cde Nyathi be granted a State-assisted funeral.
