His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa convened a pivotal meeting with Zimbabwe’s Ambassadors at State House in Harare, following a week-long retreat and strategic review organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade from October 27 to November 2, in Gweru.
The retreat focused on evaluating and reinforcing Zimbabwe’s diplomatic strategies to enhance its international relations and economic partnerships. Amid ongoing economic and political challenges, these discussions aim to revitalise foreign alliances, attract investment, and address factors impacting Zimbabwe’s global reputation.
This high-level meeting underscored the Government’s commitment to close engagement with its diplomatic corps, ensuring that foreign policy remains aligned with Zimbabwe’s national interests. Through a strengthened diplomatic approach, Zimbabwe hopes to navigate global complexities while promoting its vision of economic growth and resilience on the international stage.
The Ambassadors were reminded of their responsibilities in promoting Zimbabwe’s goals across diverse socio-economic sectors. Reflecting on recent insights from the ruling Party’s 21st National People’s Conference and their Senior Management Retreat, they were urged to apply their knowledge in impactful and measurable ways.
“Your participation at these two events is commendable, the outcomes of which must serve as constant reminders of the expectations placed upon you. Further, these two significant events should have given you a broad overview of the developments across all socio-economic sectors and within our ruling Party, ZANU PF.
“Information you have gathered during this period should help you to better deliver in the course of your duties and responsibilities. Remain mindful that I expect high impact and focused results in all engagements, programmes and activities at your respective missions,” President Mnangagwa emphasized.
President Mnangagwa reminded the Ambassadors that it is their duty to ensure that the Missions they superintend, should scale up initiatives towards advancing the realisation of the Vision of becoming a prosperous and empowered upper middle-income economy by 2030.
“I, thus, challenge each of you to apply yourselves fully to deliver the results expected of you from both the Ministry and national levels. I look forward to a time when this gathering will include highlights and recognition of the best performing Missions, based on clearly stipulated criteria and outcomes,” said President Mnangagwa.
As global dynamics shift, with rising South-South cooperation and expanded alliances like BRICS, Zimbabwe’s diplomats were urged to be agile and responsive to opportunities for economic partnerships. They were tasked with strengthening intra-African trade, promoting local production, and fostering modernisation initiatives, despite external challenges such as international sanctions.
The host highlighted the country’s internal achievements, including the recent launch of the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency, political reforms, and advancements in agriculture, mining, and infrastructure. Ambassadors were encouraged to actively support these developments by cultivating relationships with investors, promoting value addition, and advocating for Zimbabwe’s strategic initiatives on the global stage.
Additionally, President Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of engaging with the Zimbabwean diaspora, recognising them as a vital part of the country’s growth and future. Ambassadors were reminded that as representatives of Zimbabwe, they bear the “sacred duty” of protecting the nation’s sovereignty and fostering its image abroad.
In closing, Zimbabwe’s Ambassadors were urged to embody the nation’s resilience, commitment, and dedication to sustainable development. The President added that individually and collectively, Ambassadors had to play their part to help the nation realise its aspirations on the world stage.
