President Mnangagwa today accepted his nomination to be the Manicaland State University of Applied Science Chancellor.
President Mnangagwa said the call for him to become chancellor gives fresh impetus for him to ensure young people who are in the country`s institutions of higher learning have a bright future.
He presided over the institution`s first graduation since inception and this is where he was conferred the honour.
While addressing the graduands and all those in attendance President Mnangagwa said, “My installation as Chancellor of this University is a call to work and re-dedicate ourselves to duty as well as
serving in our national interests. The University Council, Senate, Management and Staff must be committed to deliver an institution of national pride, an institution fit for purpose, and of global standards for the ultimate benefit of improving the quality of life of our people.”
He went on to urge Universities, Manicaland State University included, to remain as unique places of transformation, where knowledge is constructed and re-constructed, the present secured and the future forged.
“Within the context of its present and future relevance, Manicaland State University should define its footprint and impact on broad based empowerment, as well as wealth creation to lift our people out of poverty and into prosperity. To this end, the University must expand its faculties and offer programmes and courses capable of propelling our national development agenda. Your strategic thrust in programme development must ensure that no field of study in applied sciences is deemed outside your purview. You are not a numbers, but a quality University,” said President Mnangagwa.
President Mnangagwa reiterated the importance of women empowerment especially as the world approaches the International Day of the Girl Child.
