President Mnangagwa grants Anne Nhira state assisted funeral

President Mnangagwa accorded late actress Anne Nhira a state assisted funeral.

She died in South Africa last Thursday from injuries sustained a during robbery.

Better known as Vimbai in the film industry, Nhirarose to prominence in a film called Studio 263 which was premiered on Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation in 2002.

She became a household name in Zimbabwe before moving to South Africa in 2008 to pursue her acting career.

In a statement released by the Chief Secretary To The President and Cabinet Mr Misheck Sibanda to the Secretary for Youth,Arts and Recreation Permanent Secretary Dr T Chitepo, Dr Sibanda confirmed the President’s gesture.

“Please be advised that His Excellency the President has approved state assisted funeral to the late Anne ‘Vimbai Nhire. You may proceed with the necessary arrangements,” he wrote.

Vimba’s body is yet to be retrieved from South Africa where they are waiting for a postmortem.

Mourners are gathered at her father’s house in Manyame Park.

Due to Covid-19 regulations only less than 30 mourners are allowed for a funeral.

Nhira became the second artist to be granted a special honour by the President this year, after musician Soul Jah Love was granted a Provincial hero status.

Some of the Notable artistes to receive the owner includes Oliver Mutukudzi, Simon Chimbetu and Cde Chinx Chingaira.
