Harare – In a speech at the closing ceremony of the second edition of the Zim Afro T10 Cricket Tournament, Zimbabwe’s President, His Excellency Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, expressed the government’s continued support for sports development in the country and the nation’s growing appeal to international investors.

“Be assured that the Government of Zimbabwe will continue to support initiatives that promote sport and create opportunities for our local athletes to shine on the international stage,” President Mnangagwa stated. He underscored Zimbabwe’s growing role in the world of sports, adding, “Together, we can ensure that Zimbabwe continues to rise as a key player in the world of sports.”

The President expressed gratitude to the Zimbabwean diaspora community for their efforts in attracting investors to the country’s cricket scene. “I extend my gratitude to our diaspora community who have worked tirelessly to convince investors to come to Zimbabwe and invest in cricket,” he said. He pledged inclusive development in the sports sector, promising, “Together, we will leave no one and no place behind in the realm of sports.”

President Mnangagwa urged the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Zimbabwe Cricket, and other stakeholders to implement concrete programs at the grassroots level. He also welcomed the growing number of international investors showing confidence in Zimbabwe and the Zim Afro T10 League, noting representation from countries such as Australia, Bangladesh, India, the United Arab Emirates, Portugal, and the United States. This, he said, “demonstrates that Zimbabwe’s doors are truly open for global partnerships and opportunities.”

Reflecting on the tournament’s success, the President congratulated Zimbabwe Cricket for successfully hosting the Zim Afro T10 for the second consecutive year. He commended the players and teams for their hard work and dedication, highlighting the “power of good sportsmanship and teamwork.” He acknowledged the impressive global reach of the tournament, broadcast to over 100 countries and watched by more than 400 million viewers. “This platform has not only elevated cricket but has also showcased Zimbabwe to the world,” he declared. “We are honoured to be a part of this growing legacy.”

President Mnangagwa also promoted Zimbabwe as a destination for business and sport, highlighting the country’s potential and welcoming the international recognition it has received. He expressed enthusiasm for the “Zimbabwe is open for business” mantra, which he believes has fostered strong partnerships between the government and the private sector for inclusive and sustainable development. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to attracting investors to the sector.

Finally, the President encouraged visitors to explore Zimbabwe’s tourist attractions, including Victoria Falls, the Eastern Highlands, Matopo Hills, and the Great Zimbabwe Monuments.
