MARONDERA – The President and Chancellor of all State Universities, Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa presided over the third graduation ceremony of the Marondera University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (MUAST) today, capping 103 graduands from various faculties. The ceremony, held at the University’s Cloverhill Campus, was themed “Education 5.0: Harnessing Agricultural Innovations and Industrialisation for Economic Transformation.”
This year’s graduation marked a significant milestone for MUAST, with a 6% increase in graduates compared to the previous year. Of the 103 graduands, 71 received Bachelor’s degrees, 27 earned Master’s degrees, one received an M.Phil, and, notably, four students achieved the distinction of being the first to graduate with DPhils from the institution. The graduates represented a diverse range of disciplines within the faculties of Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship, Earth and Environmental Sciences, and Plant and Animal Sciences and Technology. The graduating class also reflected a positive trend in gender representation, with 61 male and 42 female graduates.
“This graduation ceremony is a testament to MUAST’s commitment to human capital development through Education 5.0,” said Professor Justice Nyamangara, the Vice-Chancellor of the university. “Our graduates are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to drive Zimbabwe’s agricultural transformation and contribute to the country’s economic development.”
Two outstanding students were recognized for their academic excellence. Sigauke Proud, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Development Sciences and Policy, received the Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Chancellor’s Prize of US$1,000 for the Overall Best Male Graduating Student, as well as several other accolades.
Taruvinga Princess Nyasha, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Supply Chain Management, was awarded the Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Chancellor’s Prize of US$1,000 for the Overall Best Female Graduating Student, along with other prestigious prizes.
The ceremony also celebrated the achievements of the inaugural cohort of Doctorate graduates: Leon Marongedza and Muzuva Prince in Development Sciences and Policy; Tapfumanei Linda in Agriculture (Horticulture), and Munyaradzi Mativavarira in Plant Breeding.
Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, entertainment was provided by the Ngoma Dzepasi Traditional Band, the Airforce of Zimbabwe Band, the Seke Teacher’s College Band, and the MUAST choir.
The Marondera University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology continues to play a vital role in Zimbabwe’s agricultural transformation and economic development, as it produces highly skilled graduates who are ready to contribute to the nation’s progress.
