HARARE – The President and First Secretary of ZANU-PF, Cde Dr. Emmerson D. Mnangagwa, addressed the 378th Ordinary Session of the ZANU-PF Politburo on September 25, 2024, emphasizing the party’s core principles and calling for unity, discipline, and action to achieve national development goals.

“ZANU PF is a Constitutional entity with a well-articulated overarching mission, goals, and objectives, as well as stipulated duties of members. Today, as we gather, therefore, in this 378th Ordinary Session, it is critically important that we reinforce the political foundations and principles which form the bedrock of our colossal revolutionary Party,” His Excellency, the President stated, underscoring the necessity of strengthening the party’s political foundations. He urged members to drive the party forward “in unity, with discipline and integrity,” honouring the legacy of the party’s founding fathers.

Acknowledging progress toward Vision 2030, President Mnangagwa emphasized the need for sustained focus and exemplary leadership. “I call upon this Politburo Session to once again introspect and give the requisite guidance so that our beloved Party, ZANU PF, and the people of our motherland, Zimbabwe, pick up pace towards building a stronger Party and the realization of our shared national development agenda,” he declared.

The President and First Secretary called for increased production and productivity across all sectors, urging the Politburo and party members to uphold the party’s principles and character. He challenged the party, stating, “I challenge the Party to resolutely oppose statements and actions that undermine or distort our correct line of the revolution. All moves to damage the interests of the people of our great motherland; tamper with our unity, social harmony, development interest, sovereignty, security and overall national stability should be decisively dealt with.”

He cautioned against the misuse of media platforms to spread disunity and advance harmful political agendas saying, “In this regard, it is incumbent on the structures of the Party to act boldly against anything that erodes, weakens or undermines the Party’s unity, discipline, vitality and strength. Unruly elements who are abusing various media platforms to cause alarm and despondency, while also sowing disunity and advancing misguided, nefarious political agendas within the country and Party, stand warned.”

Highlighting the upcoming 21st National People’s Conference in Bulawayo, themed “Industrialise and Modernise Towards the Attainment of Vision 2030,” President Mnangagwa noted its coinciding with SADC Anti-Sanctions Day. He urged both the party and government to advocate for the removal of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe and other nations.
The President praised the successful hosting of the 44th Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government in Harare, expressing gratitude to all involved. He encouraged the party to draw inspiration from the summit’s outcomes, particularly regarding innovation and its role in modernization and industrialization.

Emphasizing the importance of expanding the party’s membership base, President Mnangagwa remarked, “there is always room for more people in ZANU PF. Homwe ye Musangano wedu hayizari. Tose tinokwana muhomwe ye ZANU PF.”

He commended the Youth League and Masvingo Province for organizing the inaugural Munhumutapa Day, highlighting the significance of connecting with Zimbabwe’s history and identity.

Addressing economic challenges the President acknowledged the impacts of sanctions, climate change, and global economic disruptions but emphasized the resilience of the Zimbabwean people. “Acts of economic sabotage, speculative and counter-productive tendencies by those who thrive on greed and profiteering have no place in our country. Attacks on the economy to make the public suffer are unacceptable and my Government will protect the ordinary people,” he asserted.

Welcoming the SADC summit’s call for the removal of sanctions, President Mnangagwa also highlighted his state visit to China and participation in the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) as opportunities to deepen cooperation and accelerate modernization and industrialization.

He congratulated ARDA for winning the 2024 Africa Food Prize and urged party structures to mobilize communities for the upcoming agricultural season, promising support through the Presidential Agriculture Climate Proofing Input Support Programme.

Concluding his address, President Mnangagwa reiterated, “ZANU PF is a colossal revolutionary mass Party. All the structures of the Party are called upon to align with its cardinal Constitutional principles and to be patriotic, disciplined and loyal to the Party and its leadership.” He led a moment of silence to honor party cadres who passed away during the intervening period, including national heroes Brigadier General (Rtd) Elasto Madzingira and Brigadier General (Rtd) Shadreck Ndabambi.
