President Emmerson Mnangagwa today commended the country`s creative cultural industry for its role in shaping a truly Zimbabwean highlight of the nation’s history.

He said this at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) while launching the Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Economic Empowerment Programs and Vetting Exercise.

“I applaud the Creative Cultural Industries for their quest to tell the stories of all the heroes and heroines of our country. This correct narrative that the war of resistance and liberation was fought throughout the country,” said President Mnangagwa.

This follows the broadcasting of The Story of Nehanda (The Movie) on national television, which was hailed by historians and academics as being an accurate visual depiction of the historical events surrounding the trial and execution of Mbuya Nehanda (Nyakasikana Charwe).

This was then followed by the unveiling of the Statue of Mbuya Nehanda on Africa Day.
This is also accompanied by the autobiography of ZANUPF’s first Chairperson, the late Herbert Chitepo and the soon to be unveiled Statue of General Khumalo.

He said, “This recognition of our heroes and heroines extends to the likes of General Mtshana Khumalo who commanded the Imbizo Regiment under king Lobengula of Matebeleland. It was General Khumalo’s regiment that defeated Allan Wilson Patrol at the Battle of Pupu on December 10, 1893; Lobengo, Sekuru Kaguvi, Chaminuka, Mkwati, Queen Lozekeyi, Chinengundu, Mashayamombe, Mgandani Dlodlo, Chiwashira, Muchecheterwa, Chingaira Makoni, Mapondera and many others.”

These masterpieces made by artists and architects to relive and reanimate the key figures in Zimbabwean history should inspire the youths to consistently defend the Independence, Territorial integrity and dignity.

“The immortalization and memorialization of our heroes must serve as a reminder to future generations of the brutality and savagery of the white settler regime towards our forefathers.

“Neo-colonialism and neo-imperialism must never be allowed into our country,” President Mnangagwa added.
