His Excellency the President and Chancellor of all State Universities, Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, officiated the 15th Graduation Ceremony at Lupane State University.
The graduates included a diverse array of academic achievements; 1 Doctorate, 31 Postgraduate diplomas, 221 Masters Degrees, 441 Special Honours degrees, 942 Undergraduate degrees, and 72 Diplomas.
The Chancellor’s Award also recognized four students for their community-focused projects, awarding each US$500. Recipients included Mr. Matesu Dube, founder of Umkhathi Theatre Works, for his project on the development of the theater group, along with Wenzile Nyathi, Dylan Baloyi, and Sihlonitshiwe Hlabangana for projects in agriculture, artificial intelligence, and digitalization in small enterprises, respectively.
The government allocated ZiG7.6 million and US$150,000 to complete the foundation for LSU’s second teaching and learning complex, expanding the institution’s capacity. LSU also acquired two new buses to support its operations, enhancing mobility and access for students and staff.
The Vice Chancellor of Lupane University, Professor Pardon Kuipa also congratulated President Mnangagwa for his assumption of the SADC chairperson, alluding the benefits the position has in strengthening the Education 5.0 vision.
“This esteemed position presents a pivotal opportunity for Zimbabwe to spread its Heritage based Education 5.0 framework within the region especially as you are the Architect of the Education 5.0 philosophy which resonates well with the African Union’s 2024 Year of Education call for the urgent need to transform education systems across the continent.”
