POTRAZ donates laptops to PWDs

President Emmerson Mnangagwa today received from 105 laptops from the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services via POTRAZ to be handed over to 14 centres housing or catering for people with disabilities.

The ICT equipment was handed over to President Mnangagwa by Minister Jenfan Muswere today in Gweru, where the President is officiating at the official opening of the National Disability Expo.

The Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services was mandated to work on the SMART Zimbabwe 2030 Master Plan, which seeks to exploit the potential of ICTs so that Zimbabwe attains its Vision of becoming an Upper Middle-income economy by 2030.

President Mnangagwa is a strong proponent of the ‘leave no one behind’ and this philosophy has culminated in digital literacy where resources are being availed to people with disabilities.
The gesture by the Ministry  through POTRAZ to donate ICT equipment to persons living with disabilities will go a long way in ensuring that no one is left unconnected in the digital economy.

Among the institutions housing or catering for persons living with disabilities are today receiving ICT gadgets are Mudavanhu Zimcare Trust in the high density suburb of Mkoba, Gweru, Sir Humphrey Gibbs Zimcare Trust, Sibantubanye Special School, Simanyane Special School, Isheanesu Multipurpose Centre for Disabled Children and Autism Organisation of Zimbabwe all getting five laptops each.

Queen of Peace Special School is getting six. King George VI Centre, Kukura Neshungu Institute, Ruvimbo Special School,  Mutare Teachers College, National Rehabilitation Centre( Lowden Lodge ) and  Bulawayo Polytechnic, are all receiving ten laptops each with Great Zimbabwe University receiving nine.
