Police make arrests over Mbizo violence

At least 16 people have been arrested over the violence which erupted at the CCC Rally in Kwekwe.

 

The incident ocurred on Sunday afternoon, at Mbizo 4 Shopping Centre while CCC leader Nelson Chamisa was addressing a campaign rally.

 

There were skirmishes, which left a number of people injured.

 

It is said that 17 people were injured and taken to the hospital following an attack by assailants at the rally who were armed with stones, spears and machetes.

 

In a statement, ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they are carrying out investigations.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the violent incident which occurred in Kwekwe this afternoon in which one person died.

The ZRP also confirms that 16 suspects have been picked up in connection with the incident.

Police investigations are now in progress and more details will be released soon.”

 

The ZRP urges citizens to be peaceful and shun violence at all times.”

CCC activists were quick to claim that Zanu Pf members were behind the attack, despite video footage showing people in the opposition party’s regalia.
