Police Identify Victims of the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road Accident

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of five victims from a fatal road accident that occurred on September 3, 2024, at the 222-kilometre mark along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road.

The accident which involved a head-on collision between a Ford Ranger and a haulage truck, initially claimed six lives. However, police later confirmed that the death toll had risen to seven.

In a statement released on Wednesday morning, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that six of the victims had been identified by their families.

“Regarding the fatal road accident that took place on September 3, 2024, at approximately 0800 hours along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road, the death toll has increased to seven. Six of the victims have been identified by their relatives,” Commissioner Nyathi said.

The ZRP named five of the identified victims as follows:

– Farai Rateiwa, a male adult from Makoni, Rusape
– Andrew Dembura, a male adult from Nyabonga, Zaka, Masvingo.
– Felistas Bhasitera, a female adult from Nyabonga, Zaka, Masvingo.
– Isabel Dembura, a 9-year-old girl from Nyabonga, Zaka, Masvingo.
– Hilfrasia Dembura, a 6-year-old girl from Nyabonga, Zaka, Masvingo.

The remaining victim is a foreign national whose identity has not yet been released.

The ZRP has urged motorists to adhere to road safety regulations and cautioned drivers against overtaking in unsafe situations.
