Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) are searching for criminals using staged car crashes to rob motorists. In two separate incidents, the robbers struck in a Honda Fit, rear-ending victims’ vehicles before stealing cash and valuables.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, national police spokesperson, confirmed the investigations.
“We’re looking into these robberies where suspects in a Honda Fit created fake accidents to steal from drivers,” he said.
The first incident occurred on April 9th, 2024, at the intersection of Hurtsview Drive and Lantana Way in Ridgeview. A motorist in a Toyota Mark X was hit from behind by the Honda Fit. Three armed robbers with hammers then attacked the driver and stole their car.
The second robbery happened on Derby Road in Avondale on April 8th, 2024, around 9:30 pm. Another Toyota Mark X driver was struck from behind by the Honda Fit. This victim lost a significant amount of cash, US$27,300, to the robbers.
The investigation is ongoing.
