Parliament has called on the public to make nominations for individuals who will serve on the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).
The Committee on Standing Rules and Orders of the Parliament of Zimbabwe is mandated by the Constitution to nominate candidates for appointment by the President to serve as Commissioners of the ZEC.
The nominated candidates should be citizens of Zimbabwe and chosen for their integrity, experience and their competence in the conduct of affairs in public or private sector.
Zimbabweans were called to bring forward names of individuals they believe are fit to serve on one of the most coveted commissions in the country.
In a statement, Parliament said; “The nomination material must consist of a typewritten submission of no more than two A4 pages long stating why the person nominated is a suitable candidate together with a completed nomination form which can be obtained at Parliament offices.”
According to the advisory, nominations should be addressed to the Clerk of Parliament in envelopes clearly marked ZEC and then either posted, hand delivered to the Parliament of Zimbabwe offices.
Closing date for the submissions of the nominations is July 16 2021.
ZEC is the one responsible for preparing and managing all major elections held in Zimbabwe like the presidential or provincial elections and to ensure that those elections and referendums are conducted efficiently, freely, fairly and transparently.
