OPINION: Imbeciles and Smith glorification
Nevanji Munyaradzi Chiondegwa
The Constitution of the United States grants the States the power to set voting requirements.
In the past, the states generally limited this right to property-owning or tax-paying white males.
It was not just in the USA but also in Europe including Great Britain that the right to vote was limited to a certain age group with certain holdings especially property and paid taxes.
I am reminded of this history every time I notice how we take voting for granted in Zimbabwe and how every fly by the night organisation crops up, gets funding from the Western embassies we graciously host and starts working against Zimbabwe.
I am also reminded of a young man, Cde Taurai Kandishaya. Kandishaya is the National Deputy Political Commissar in the ZANU PF Youth League National Executive.
The newly appointed leadership of the Youth League has its work cut out and Cde Kandishaya has hit the ground running.
Cde Anti-Gakanje, as he is fondly called by his friends and foes alike has taken the President and First Secretary of ZANU PF, HE ED Mnangagwa’s instruction to go work for the people literally and has been at work.
In a series of videos that have received wide circulation, he addresses issues of choosing political parties.
Well, universal suffrage has been extended to all and in Zimbabwe all 18-year olds are free to register to vote and join any political party pf their choice. This is were as a zampolit, Cde Kandishaya tries to bring them into supporting ZANU PF and of course voting for President Mnangagwa.
He has said, in choosing a political party to support look at the Head office of the party. This informs you whether the party is a serious one or not.
A party that lacks property, rents offices from a landlord is not a serious party. This brings me back to voters and property owning. If a political party does not even have a permanent office, how is it even formulating plans for taking the country forward?
The second issues he touches on is Party slogan. VIVA ZANU PF means long live ZANU PF. Longevity is a blessing, long life is given to those who respect their parents. A nation is a parent and ZANU respects the founding ethos of this nation. A country is referred to as a she(mother land).
God, in his Decalogue gives one commandment with immediate results. One in which he instructs the respect of parents for long life to be granted to one. ZANU PF leaders grow old because they respect their mother(nation).
It would look like ZANU PF with its respect for the motherland brought about by the liberation struggle( the father) have been blessed with long life. Morgan Tsvangirai was anti-liberation struggle and disregarded everything about this country in his desire to rule.
He mocked the ZANU PF leadership but failed to outlive the late President Mugabe. One cannot forget the other promoters or ageism including Dewa Mavinga and the recently deceased Dr Alex Magaisa.
Prophet Makandiwa once said in deciding who to vote for, consider what you want to protect. People must consider a party programmes or plan of action. Does the political party what’s to empower people? What is it dishing out to people? Hope or dejection?
ZANU PF has given people a lasting legacy in the form of land while the other has given people sore backs from sending them on running battles with police
We have been inundated with glorification of the former colonial and racist leader of Rhodesia, Ian Douglas Smith recently from the opposition quarters of this country. Praising Ian Smith indicates the lack of ideology in opposition and the unfocused state of its youth! Colonial puppetry galores!
In 1886 the United Kingdom had the Idiots Act which clearly distinguished between lunatics, idiots and imbeciles. It was repealed by the Mental Deficiency Act of 1913.
Because of this repealing, we have to mingle and interact with imbeciles as they suggest imbecile ways of running Zimbabwe, including acknowledging and glorifying the colonial slave master Ian Smith.
People who think colonialism was better than self rule must be excluded from registering to vote, and must be assisted at national orientation institutions.
There is no way we must be forced to allow people who do not value and acknowledge the founding principles of this nation to have the right to decide the future if the country!
One who glorifies Ian Douglas Smith does not know what to protect and uphold!
The late General Vitalis Zvinavashe aka Cde Sheba Musungwa Gava boldly stated that the Zimbabwean Presidency is a straitjacket.
He was and remains right given the uproarious praise of Smith by our ideology-less opposition.
How can a country whose sons and daughters bled to be free be led by a person who thinks we were better off under colonial rule?
It is time we seriously put some thought into the Patriots Act!
