Government has begun consultations which will inform a roadmap set to be pursued as Zimbabwe seeks to help informal sector players into formalizing their work.
The formalization, which will be in fulfilment of the National Development Strategy 1 is set to culminate into new policy approaches.
In a public notice issued by the Minsitry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, the plan is being treated as a priority.
“The Government of Zimbabwe underscores the importance of prioritizing the informal economy through the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) to support informal workers and working towards increasing both incomes and productivity within the informal sector,” the notice said.
The notice said Government is committed to the effective promotion and protection of human rights and providing decent work to all those operating in the informal economy.
“Against this background, the Government of Zimbabwe through the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare will be conducting public consultative meetings with all stakeholders in the informal sector on the development of the formalization strategy,” the notice read.
The consultations are already underway across the country in all provinces.
They began on 22 November and will end on the 26 November 2021
