Bulawayo based premiership side Bulawayo Chiefs were yesterday crowned the 2022 Chibuku Super Cup champions after defeating Herentals by one goal to nil at Barbourfields stadium.

The solitary goal of the match was scored by Arthur Musiyiwa in the first half.

He fired a shot from just outside the penalty box, and fired a shot which broke the deadlock in the 37th minute.

Musiyiwa had found an opening after confusion between Herentals defenders.

Speaking after the match, Herentals coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva expressed disappointment over the loss but have faith that the students can take lessons from such experiences.

“We are disappointed with the loss, but we took some lessons from the match and hopefully we will make it right in the next edition of the tournament. We have never been in this situation before,” he said.

On the other hand, Nkosiyazi Ncube, the Bulawayo Chiefs goalkeepers coach who stood in for coach Thulani Sibanda said the title win meant a lot for the team.

Aged Herentals player Innocent Benza and his son Tinotenda were in Herentals’ starting eleven.

This was the 20222 Chibuku Super Cup Final in the history of the tournament for a father and son to play together.
