Ngezi rescue Benjani from nightmarish coaching debut

Benjani Mwaruwari`s standing in Zimbabwean football is almost solid.
The decorated player, who turned out for Aj Auxerre in France, Portsmouth in England and was part of the first expensive squad assembled by Mark Hughes at Manchester City, took the path that most footballers fancy after playing – coaching.
He was first appointed as the Warriors Assistance coach, but the appointment was nullified a few days after announcement due to ZIFA boardroom politics.
Mwaruwari then found comfort in Ngezi, where he replaced Rodwell Dhlakama, taking a US$8000 per month salary.
Much was expected of him, but it was a fairytale that never was.
Mwaruwari managed to win three matches, drawing six times and losing four times, translating to a 38 percent win rate.
This saw Ngezi occupying ninth place, despite being the best paying team in the league, 17 points behind log leaders FC Platinum.
The team decided to crack the whip.
In a statement, Ngezi Platinum said Benjani`s departure was by mutual agreement.
This was Benjani’s first coaching assignment and both the club and the coach agreed that it did not deliver the expected results hence the decision to separate was in the best interest of the club,” Ngezi Platinum said.
Assistant Coach Takesure Chiragwi takes over as the interim coach.
