A section of the Nemakonde Road (formerly Lomagundi Road) in Harare, from Second Street to Harare Drive, opened to traffic yesterday after being rehabilitated into a four-carriage way in accordance with SADC standards, much to the excitement of motorists.
The government will shift focus to roads in several Harare neighbourhoods after meeting the timelines set to rehabilitate all access roads leading to the Greater Harare City.
“We are happy that this road is now open to traffic because this has been overdue,” said a motorist.
Another said, “President Emmerson Mnangagwa is doing a good job in road rehabilitation and we are so happy.”
“Kombi drivers are now excited that this road is expanded because we can now do our business with ease,” added a motorist.
Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, Honourable Felix Mhona revealed that the road rehabilitation programme continues with the focus shifting to roads in the neighbourhoods.
“This is the work of the Second Republic and we are very excited that all roads in the CBD and which link to the main city have been completed on time. We are not stopping but will continue to roads in the locations and we are not going to stop,” he said.
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Harare Province, Senator Charles Tawengwa spoke on the realisation of Vision 2030.
“It is the realisation of this vision that is exciting and what started as a vision is slowly being put into action hence Harare will never be the same again.”
The government is working tirelessly to ensure that it realises its Vision of an upper-middle-income society by 2030 and is creating strong economic enablers, which include a modern and revamped road infrastructure to sustain that vision.
