National hero Mabenge to be buried on Wednesday

The late veteran of the struggle and decorated soldier Brigadier-General (Rtd) Benjamin Mabenge who died in Harare this morning will be buried at the National Heroes Acre on Wednesday.
This was announced by Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage this afternoon.
Brig-Gen (Rtd) Mabenge whose Chimurenga name was Cde Freddie Matanga had been hospitalized for the past two weeks and was declared a national hero, immediately after the news of his demise was confirmed.
In a statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage said, “Preparations for the burial of the national hero are now at an advanced stage.”
The statement went on to say, “The body of the late national hero will be flown to Kwekwe tomorrow at 0800 hrs and is expected back in Harare at 1500 hrs ahead of burial on Wednesday.”
The late national hero is survived by six children (five boys and a girl).
Meanwhile, mourners are currently gathered at Subdivision 1, Woodlands, Kwekwe and in Harare, mourners will be gathered at number 12 Katalina Road, Belvedere.
