Zimbabwe is set to hold its inaugural National Disability Expo on October 11 – 13 in Gweru.

The expo which follows the launch of the ground-breaking national disability policy in June this year, will allow people with disabilities to showcase their work and talents.

It will also be a platform for dialogue on where issues affecting them will be discussed with the national leadership.

The Office of the Special Advisor to the President on Disability Issues is organising and coordinating the commemorative Expo in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare.

Honourable Joshua Malinga is the Special Advisor to the President on Disability Issues.

The Expo will run under the theme, “Disability Mainstreaming and Inclusion for a Prosperous and Empowered Society which Leaves No One Behind”.

Under the National Disability Policy, people with disabilities are entitled to protection from discrimination and are entitled to inclusion in such programmes as Sexual and Mental Health education and interventions.

Some of the objectives of the National Disability Policy include setting up of systems and structures that support mainstreaming of disability issues in all laws, policies, guidelines and programs to ensure that they are inclusive and accessible by persons with disabilities.
