National Archives Director dies

National Archives of Zimbabwe Director Ivan Murambiwa has died.

The cause of death is yet to be established.

Ivan Murambiwa was a career public servant with in the cultural heritage and cultural tourism sector where he spent three decades in different roles.

He is a former Director of the Mutare Museum; Heritage Programme Coordinator at Great Zimbabwe World Heritage Site and currently
is Director of the National Archives of Zimbabwe.

Ivan has held various leadership positions within the regional and global museum and archives networks.

This includes a stint (2015-2017) as Executive Board member of the International Council on Archives.

He held a BA Honours in History and a Masters in Business Administration, both from University of Zimbabwe as well as a Master of Philosophy (Heritage Management) from University of Cambridge (UK).

Murambiwa was also a brilliant columnist who operated under the alias Munhamu Pekeshe.

He wrote in different publications including The Patriot, in which he defended the motherland.

During the time of his death, Murambiwa was working on a process of digitizing content at the national archives.
