Harare – The nation bid farewell to a decorated liberation war veteran and military leader, Brigadier General (Rtd) Shadreck Dingaan Ndabambi, in a solemn ceremony held at the National Heroes Acre today. Acting President, Hon. Gen. (Rtd) Dr. C.G.D.N. Chiwenga, presided over the burial of the late national hero.

In his address, Dr. Chiwenga praised Brigadier General Ndabambi’s unwavering dedication to Zimbabwe, both during the liberation struggle and after independence. “The nation has lost a dedicated, loyal and disciplined cadre who devoted his life to an illustrious service to the nation before and after Independence,” he stated.

Dr. Chiwenga highlighted the late General’s journey, from crossing the border as a teenager to joining the liberation struggle in Mozambique and later rising through the ranks of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, ultimately serving as Commanding Officer of the Zimbabwe Military Police Directorate, Special Investigations Branch.

“Comrade Ndabambi and his group crossed the border through the Gaerezi River Area of Nyamaropa into Mozambique,” recounted Dr. Chiwenga, painting a vivid picture of the perilous journey undertaken by young freedom fighters. He emphasized the late General’s bravery and resilience, particularly after being injured in battle and later enduring the aftermath of the Chimoio attack.

The Acting President also underscored Brigadier General Ndabambi’s commitment to national development after independence. He emphasized the importance of honoring the sacrifices of liberation heroes by working towards economic emancipation and supporting the government’s vision for a prosperous Zimbabwe.

“As we accelerate toward our economic emancipation, I call upon the nation to rally behind the visionary leadership of our iconic leader, Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa,” urged Dr. Chiwenga, emphasizing the importance of unity and hard work in achieving national goals.

He concluded his address with a heartfelt farewell; “To the late Brigadier General Ndabambi, you will be remembered for your immense contribution to the Liberation Struggle and standing firm in defending Zimbabwe by serving in the Zimbabwe Defence Forces. Today, what remains in our minds are the memories of a hardworking, disciplined and brilliant General officer who was humble, patriotic and a selfless team player who will be dearly missed by the nation. Go well Son of the Soil! Go well our General Officer and Military Police Guru! May your Soul rest in Eternal Peace.”
