Warriors and Aston Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba has been granted permission to host the inaugural under 17 tournament named after him.
The tournament will be launched on June 11 2021 in Bulawayo, where participating teams and the rules of the tournament will be unveiled.
The Marvelous Nakamba Foundation (MNF) announced the development through a press statement.
“We are excited to announce that we have finally received clearance to host the inaugural Marvelous Nakamba Under 17 football tournament. It gives us great pleasure to know that we have the support of the football custodians as we endeavour to empower grassroots football through this tournament that will see over 400 budding footballers get an opportunity to showcase the talent that we have in abundance,” read the statement.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions the tournament will be staged behind closed doors.
The MNF will broadcast the matches live through their social media handles for the benefit of fans at home.
Grassroot tournaments are good platforms for young talented footballers to show their talents to the world, some global stars were identified through similar events.
