Zimbabwean soccer sensation and Aston Villa central midfielder, Marvelous Nakamba, through the Marvelous Nakamba Foundation, has this term paid school fees for 1000 local learners.
The Warriors midfielder, through a statement issued by his foundation, indicated that this year’s student support is the biggest yet, following a similar gesture in 2020 for an undisclosed number of beneficiaries.
“We hope that this gesture will go a long way in helping not only the students that benefitted but also come as a relief to parents and guardians who have been struggling to raise school fees.
This sits well with us as the saying goes, ” It takes a nation to raise a child”.
In this same breath, we are glad that a majority of the student beneficiaries for the 2020 school fees did extremely well and we hope that the 2021 First term students will excel in their studies.
For now, we have gone to as far as 1000 students but we desire to go for more when finds permit,” said the youthful player.
Working closely with headmasters and teachers, the majority of the students have been carefully selected from mostly underprivileged communities predominantly rural areas.
This kind gesture by Nakamba comes as most parents are struggling to send students and pupils back to school after a long lay off due to Covid -19 lockdowns.
The lockdown affected income flows for most families who are mostly self-employed.
The former Bantu Rovers player indicated that it has always been his lifelong dream to be able to plough back into community and help school going kids in his country overcome challenges associated with access to basic education.
This comes as a complement to government efforts to achieve universal access to education and an inspiration to other successful players in all sporting disciplines to help their communities.
