Ministers to appear before media weekly

Staff Writer

Government has improved its post-cabinet briefing format, with Ministers now attending to give clarity on issues under their purview.

This was announced by Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Mr Nick Mangwana through his social media.

Writing on his Twitter, Mr Mangwana said “Post Cabinet Briefing: In line with the Second Republic`s thrust to openness, transparency, and accountability systems, from tomorrow Ministers will be attending the Press Conference to take questions from members of the Media.”

Zimbabwe is one of the few countries in the world that publish contents of their cabinet deliberations on the same day.

In the old dispensation, it would take years for cabinet decisions to be declassified and proceedings would only be private media conjecture.

It is expected that the move will help give clarity on several Government projects which are being implemented by different ministries, it will also allow Ministers to explain any contentious issues of national importance.

In addition to periodic parliamentary appearances, this makes Zimbabwe one of the most transparent countries in the world.
