The Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa has commiserated with the media fraternity following the death of scribe Sandra Nyaira.

Nyaira died on July 13, due to Covid-19 complications.

She was 47.

Minister Mutsvangwa described Nyaira as a trailblazer in the journalism fraternity.

“On behalf of the Ministry, I would like to convey my deepest condolences to the Nyaira family, her friends and the media fraternity. Sandra Nyaira joined the journalism profession at a time when few women dared or dreamt.
Her illustrious career which spanned over 20 years encompassed spells at the Zimbabwe Inter-Africa News Agency (ZIANA) and the Daily News before she moved to the United States to pursue other ventures. She was a correspondent for BBC, UK Guardian, British Journalism Review, London Times among other media houses,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

Minister Mutsvangwa said Nyaira rose to the occasion, when the media industry was still male dominated.

The country has lost a remarkable example of how women are equal to any task tackled by their male counterparts in the media fraternity,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
