The Sports and Recreation Commission has announced that they have raised USD$1 million for the Warriors Africa Cup of Nations Campaign in Cameroon.
Zimbabwe`s participation in the tournament, which was unclear in the past due to correspondence from FIFA over the dissolution of the ZIFA board, appears to be imminent as the January 3 deadline which the global football body had set, lapsed.
SRC said Zimbabwe will fulfill its fixtures and there is no worry over resources.
“The SRC has a US$1 million budget for the warriors campaign made up of Us$ 800 000 and ZWL21 000 000 to finance their participation at AFCON, inclusive of appearance and match fees,” SRC said in a recent statement.
The team flew to the official Game Village, the CAF designated facility for players.
SRC also said they availed additional Covid-19 specialists and medical personnel to assist them with compliance to Covid-19 protocols.
Meanwhile, Warriors captain and Saud Arabia based forward Knowledge Musona has joined the camp.
ZIFA announced that the skipper trained with the team for the first time yesterday, while Kudakwashe Mahachi and Petros Mhari returned to full training having sat out two days of training due to injuries sustained in a preparatory match vs Sudan.
AFCON campaign kicks off on Sunday in Yaounde Cameroon.
