His Excellency the President of Zimbabwe and Chancellor of all State Universities, Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, presided over the 25th Graduation Ceremony of Midlands State University (MSU) at the university’s main campus in Gweru.
The momentous occasion celebrated the academic achievements of 6,279 graduands who successfully completed their studies across various disciplines.
This year’s cohort consisted of 3,336 female and 2,943 male graduands, showcasing MSU’s commitment to fostering gender inclusivity in higher education.
The granting of certificates, diplomas, and degrees by President Mnangagwa emphasized the institution’s dedication to academic excellence and its role in producing graduates poised to contribute meaningfully to Zimbabwe’s development.
The ceremony was marked by notable achievements and awards:
Dube Saziso, a Bachelor of Arts in English and Communication (Honours) graduate, was awarded the prestigious Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa Chancellor’s Award for being the overall best graduating female undergraduate student;
Phiri Mduduzi, a Bachelor of Science and Technology (Honours) graduate, received the Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa Chancellor’s Award for being the overall best graduating male undergraduate student;
Albert Nyathi graduated with a Master of Philosophy degree in Ethnomusicology. His thesis, titled “Intersection of Fame and Fortune: The Socio-economic Realities of the Zimbabwe Music Industry,” explored the complex dynamics between celebrity status and economic realities in the country’s music industry; and
Adding on to the occasion, the First Lady, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management. Her groundbreaking research, titled “The Efficiency of Hotels in Zimbabwe: Data Envelopment Analysis Approach,” highlights her commitment to advancing knowledge in the tourism and hospitality sector.
