The Mberengwa district successfully cultivated 204 hectares of winter wheat during the 2023/24 agricultural season.

The entirety of the cultivated crop is part of the Presidential Input Program (PIP) initiative. The district has six irrigation schemes, two community gardens, and five individual farms participating in the winter wheat program.

The District Agriculture Extension Officer, Mr. Makovere characterised the current state of the crop as fair and in good condition. He noted that most of the existing wheat crop had reached the hard dough stage of development.

A recent field visit to Vurasha irrigation scheme revealed that 98% of the crop was currently in the reproductive phase, specifically in the process of grain development. In addition, Kudakwashe Zhou from the Muchipisi garden remarked that their crop was performing well.
