Masvingo City sacks suspended Town engineer

After being suspended for six months over alleged incompetence, Masvingo City Engineer Tawanda Gozo was, last week, fired following a full council resolution made on July 23.
This verdict came after a disciplinary hearing found him guilty of a barrage of charges that were unearthed by a commission of inquiry that investigated Engneer Gozo’s case.
In a report written to Mayor Collins Maboke which was read before a special full council meeting to deliver the verdict of the disciplinary hearing, Engineer Gozo was found guilty of all the charges.

The report says Engineer Gozo was charged and found guilty according to the Masvingo City Code of Conduct and the Urban Councils Act.
The disciplinary hearing recommended that Engineer Gozo’s dismissal be effective from the date of his suspension.

Charges pinned on Engineer Gozo included failure to ensure reliable and quality water supply in the ancient city.
Reports of muddy water and no water supply from in December 2020 to mid February this year from resident associations and ratepayers strong armed Masvingo City Council into acting upon the situation.
Engineer Gozo was suspended in February this year on allegations of incompetency that resulting in the city suffering months for terrible service delivery.
Engineer Gozo was put under suspension while a commission of enquiry looked into the allegations.
The decision to fire Engineer Gozo now awaits approval from the Local Government Board.
