Lawyers complete Chamisa capture

The clique of lawyers which has in recent times been circling opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has completed its capture of the politician, with the launch of his new party Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).
The clique of lawyers, led by Fadzayi Mahere and Thabani Mpofu had been running the MDC-A from behind the scenes, forcing away veteran members like Douglas Mwonzora, Elias Mudzuri and Paurina Mupariwa among others.

Today Chamisa, a protégé of the late Morgan Tsvangirai described the MDC which he in 2018 inherited after the former Prime Minister`s death as “dirty.”
Chamisa and the CCC adopted colours used by now spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere in 2018, when she ran for parliament.
Despite the MDC constitution being clear that a member has to be in the party for five years before holding a position, Mahere was microwaved into being spokesperson.
Mahere`s port of call was to import her ill-fated 2018 Yellow campaign which saw her lose to Sam Banda who is based in Malawi.
Speaking at the launch at a hotel in Harare, Chamisa continued with his winding rhetoric.
“A new great Zimbabwe is being born. We are here, we are having a new entity and new organizations. We have left the past. We represent new hope, joy, freedom. We represent ideas, solutions …mosaics beauty of our Zimbabweans. A vision that spells glory to everyone,” said Chamisa.
The name of the party, which was long predicted by Chamisa`s adversary Douglas Mwonzora speaks to Chamisa`s self-centeredness.
Chamisa adopted CCC, which is in itself an object of self-praise as the party abbreviation.
It remains to be seen whether the new strategy and party will bear any fruit, as there is a long history of online campaigns disappointing those behind them.
The yellow party strategy is not new, Mahere and later Chamisa, adopted it from Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi who ran for MP in a constituency called Starehe.
Mwangi`s campaign was well publicised online, but he lost to Steve Mbogo who had very little digital visibility.
Mahere copied the template and suffered the same fate.
Now that Chamisa has taken the model, it remains to be seen whether he will have a different outcome at national level.
