It was a busy day in Gokwe as buses picked up learners to their respective schools while some parents did last minute school opening preparations.
Additionally, there was a lot of movement not only for those in boarding schools but also for school children from the rural areas who had traveled to town for holidays and vice versa.
The hive of activity meant brisk business for those in the transport business, stationery and uniform dealers, together with vendors who also cashed on the situation.
Big retail shops such as Metro-Peech, N Richards, Gain cash & carry and Choppies were trading in both USD and ZWG.
Parents were happy that their children were going back to school, with some expressing the difficulties they faced in school fees payments and acquiring other basics.
In an interview with The Chronicle, the Director of communications and advocacy in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mr Taungana Ndoro noted that the government was satisfied with the learning so far, following the granting of an additional two weeks to the writing classes last term.
In addition, the extended period allowes educators to work more on critical topics to foster solid understanding to the students.
As the schools open this third term, it is everyone’s wish that it ends with no accidents and fatalities.
