Kariba – The construction of the Batonga Flea Market is progressing rapidly, with the Municipality of Kariba announcing that it is now approximately 95% complete.

This modern market, constructed with the support of Gender Links, aims to serve the residents of Batonga and Garikai areas, providing a conducive environment for local Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

The Batonga market has been designed with special provisions to promote inclusivity and diversity. It is set to accommodate 150 SMEs, with specific allocations made to ensure balanced representation of men, women, youth, and persons with disabilities. This inclusive approach will enrich the market’s offerings and contribute to a vibrant, diverse local economy.

So far, 143 tables have been allocated to beneficiaries, with 72 going to women, 43 to youths, 28 to men, and 3 to persons with disabilities. These tables will allow vendors to easily display and store their goods, enhancing their sales potential and customer experience.

Upon completion of table construction, the market will become fully operational, marking a significant investment in community infrastructure and development. The Batonga Flea Market is expected to stimulate the local economy, providing a much-needed boost for SMEs and contributing to the overall prosperity of the Kariba region.
