Joburg Bangla Tigers Clinch Zim Afro T10 Season 2 Title

His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa officiated the closing ceremony of the Zim Afro T10 Season 2 at Harare Sports Club yesterday, where the Joburg Bangla Tigers emerged as the champions.

The thrilling week-long tournament, which brought together international cricket stars, concluded with the Tigers defeating the Cape Town Samp Army in the final.

Launched last year, the Zim Afro T10 is the brainchild of billionaire Nawab Shaji Ul Mulk, owner of T10 Global Sports, in collaboration with Paul Tungwarara, chairperson of the Zimbabwe T10 franchise.

The competition featured six teams, each playing seven matches in the league phase.

President Mnangagwa, who watched the exciting final, reaffirmed his government’s commitment to collaborating with the private sector to develop sports in Zimbabwe. He highlighted the importance of increasing participation and investment in sports.

At the closing ceremony, Paul Tungwarara, Chairman of Prevail Group, and Dr. Dilesh Nguwaya, CEO of Geo-Pomona Waste Management (Pvt) Ltd, presented tokens of appreciation to match officials for their exceptional work throughout the season. Several awards were given as follows;

Player of the Tournament: Sikander Raza from the Joburg Bangla Tigers, with 231 runs, 23 sixes, and 6+ wickets;

Bowler of the Tournament: Amir Hamza Hotak from Cape Town Samp Army;

Batter of the Tournament: Rassie Van Der Dussen from NYC Lagos, with 256 runs, three half-centuries, and 21 sixes;and

Runner-up: Rohan Mustafa, Captain of Cape Town Samp Army.

President Mnangagwa presented the Zim Afro T10 Trophy to Joburg Bangla Tigers’ captain Sikander Raza and team owner Mr. Yasin Chowdhury. In return, Raza gifted the President a signed team jersey with “ED Number 1” printed on it in a gesture of appreciation.

The Zim Afro T10 continues to position Zimbabwe as a growing destination for global cricket talent.
