Irrigation scheme changing lives in Mutasa

Villagers in Ward 19 in Mutasa District, in Manicaland are optimistic about a change of fortunes after the setting up of a new irrigation scheme which has brought with it productive capacity.

The Chidzinzwa irrigation scheme, being monitored by Agritex extension officers was setup as part of the second republic`s delivery of promises made to the country under the National Development Strategy 1.

Land currently under utilisation extends to 26.5 hectares, on which villagers are growing wheat, cabbage, potatoes and sugar beans.
Each farmer has half a hectare, beneficiaries consist of 27 males and 26 female, with specific focus being given to widows.

The irrigation scheme has also become a source of income generating to the beneficiaries as they sell their produce within Ward 19 in Mutasa and outside up to places like Sakubva market in Mutare.

Chidzinzwa irrigation scheme has also created employment in the community through giving youths paid tasks like planting, weeding and harvesting.
