Ministry of Sports Arts and Recreation and Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry collaborated on Saturday at Harare Sports Club, Marketing Zimbabwe, as a sport and tourism destination of choice.

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), in a tweet on their official page, described the event as a golden opportunity to market Zimbabwe and its Tourism potential to the sporting world.

“It has been a great weekend of rugby as Zimbabwe hosted the @Paramountzim Africa Men’s Sevens Olympic Qualifiers at Harare Sports Club, Zimbabwe. An event of this magnitude is applauded as it positively contributes to the tourism economy with notable business growth.

Furthermore, it puts Zimbabwe on the regional and global map as a tourism destination. Our gratitude goes to @moysarzim through its leaderahip Hon. @KirstyCoventry & the ministry’s affiliate organisations, sponsors, stakeholders, the @zimsevens – the #Cheetahs, who put up a brave fight for the nation & the super supporters who were a constant motivation for the players and made the games worthwhile for everyone.

We look forward to partnering on future programs and events as we together promote brand Zimbabwe, A World of Wonders,” read the tweet.

Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Honourable Barbara Rwodzi joined fellow Zimbabweans in supporting the Rugby 7s National team as they seeked their maiden Olympic qualification. The Minister underscored the importance of sports tourism.

Hon Rwodzi said one of the key pillars in this engagement was to establish if they are well equipped in skill to make sure that Zimbabwean tourism can be established on the Global stage.

“We have so much planned that we shall be sharing with the nation this coming week.

On our list of areas of interest we have Sport, Culture, Quisines and our tourism destinations. We want to make Victoria Falls a different place in the next five years in terms of physical and financial Infrastructure.

We have many little known destinations like Mutarazi, Gonarezhou and The Great Zimbabwe that should be propped for better visibility and marketed for both external and local traffic in tourism,” said Hon Rwodzi.

Minister Kisty Coventry, her deputy Hon Emily Jesaya, the SRC and the entire sporting fraternity were leading the proceedings and  joined hands in turning around sports development and marketing.

Zimbabwe Rugby team, the Cheetahs, qualified for the Rugby Africa Sevens Cup quarter-finals after a dominant display in their Group C matches on Saturday.

Zimbabwe had to bring their a-game to seal quarterfinal qualification as they dismantled Algeria 47-5 before wielding the axe on Uganda.

Ultimately, a 17-12 win over pre-tournament favourites South Africa in the Finals enabled Kenya to become the ninth men’s team to confirm its participation in next year’s Games.
