Brian Rungano Temba

Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services has launched a Whatsapp platform for updates on Government business and progress on projects.

While there have been regular updates through mainstream media and Twitter, the ministry elected to go an extra step to ensure that they cater for the majority of internet users whose activity is limited to Whatsapp.

The announcement was made through a Tweet on the Ministry’s official twitter account.

“@InfoMinZW brings you convenience in following our updates. We are introducing a whatsapp group to keep you informed of national developments happening under the leadership of H.E President @edmnangagwa

Join using the link below: https://t.co/aqteoPShPu,” read the tweet.

As government is moving towards accomplishing its set out targets under the NDS1, a lot of content that is reflective of government’s work is not reaching a particular demographic.

As the official mouthpiece of the Second Republic, Ministry of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services has accounts across all active social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tiktok.

The gap that had been created by the omission of WhatsApp which (according to Potraz) holds 32 percent of Zimbabwe’s mobile smart phone users has been bridged.

Updates on the platform will be coming from all corners of Zimbabwe where Government is undertaking developmental projects.

Public notices and other important updates will also be uploaded on the WhatsApp platform.
