The Minister of Industry and Commerce Dr Sekai Nzenza yesterday, commended Buy Zimbabwe Campaign for their work in promoting local products and supporting industry.
Buy Zimbabwe Campaign, yesterday celebrated a decade through an event at which they launched a Buy Zimbabwe 10th Anniversary awards in the capital.
Officiating at the event, Minister Nzenza said what started as a lonely journey for Munyaradzi Hwengwere and his team has culminated into a powerful national story.
“At one point it felt like we were fighting a lost cause when over 95 percent of shelves in supermarkets were filled with imported goods in 2017 especially groceries from South Africa,” Minister Nzenza said.
She added; “Aided by de-colonisation the Buy Zimbabwe campaign has turned around the situation and local brands now take up 45 percentage of the shelf space in our supermarkets and the trend is expected to continue under governments economic blueprint, the national development strategy,” said Dr Sekai Nzenza.
The Buy Zimbabwe Campaign came in as a design that wished to unlock our country’s full potential and inspire economic growth and competitiveness of local brands and they have managed to stand by their goals, objectives, and vision.
Dr Sekai Nzenza went on to urge Zimbabweans to express our preference for purchasing local brands as we have the most resilient and high-quality brands anyone could find globally.
Government is confident that the local industry will be central to the implementation of the National Development Strategy 1 and the achievement of its goals.
Buy Zimbabwe is chaired by Mr Munyaradzi Hwengwere.
