IDs will be free during current blitz-Government

Government  has waived payment of fees and relaxed the requirements needed during the National Mobile Registration exetcise currently under way.

The waiver, first announced by President ED Mnangagwa in Binga on Tuesday has now been enacted by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, the parent Ministry of the Civil Registry Department.

The announcement was made in a Press Statement by Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe.

The mobile registration exercise which commenced on 1 April will end on 30 September 2023.

The civil registration blitz is being held concurrently with Zimbabwe Electoral Commission and is meant to clear the backlog on the issuance of Civil registration caused by Covid-19 pandemic while also enabling people to register to vote in the 2023 Harmonised General election.

Minister Kazembe said, “To ensure that no-one and no place is left behind during this national mobile registration exercise, my Ministry is glad to announce that Cabinet has approved waiver of fees for all civil registration documents that is birth certificates, death certificates, national identity documents and livestock brand certificates are now issued at no costs during this mobile registration period.”

In addition to waiver of fees, Cabinet has also approved relaxation of registration requirements and this is with immediate effect.

“Provincial and District Registrars together with team leaders have been instructed to attend to every person and ensure that they are offered the services they require,” added Minister Kazembe.

“In line with His Excellency, the President E.D. Mnangagwa’s mantra that noone and no place is left behind, I encourage fellow citizens to take advantage of this opportunity and ensure that everyone is registered,” he added.
