Housing a shared responsibility – President Mnangagwa

President Mnangagwa has called on the private sector to complement Government in the provision of housing.

He said both sectors should meet in the middle to help the country reach its goals.

President Mnangagwa made these remarks at the official opening of Aspindale Park and Aspire Heights housing development project in Harare.

The project, developed by Oxford Properties, is a modern gated estate located 10 km away from the city center and consists of over 1,200 residential stands, a commercial center, and 152 high-end residential apartments.

During the commissioning, President Mnangagwa highlighted the project’s significance in realizing the housing delivery targets set in the National Development Strategy.

“This milestone by Oxford Properties is set to contribute to the realization of housing delivery targets set in the National Development Strategy. It is also a demonstration that the provision of housing, modern commercial centers, and the requisite ancillary infrastructure remains the collective responsibility of both the Government and the private sector,” said President Mnangagwa.

The President also challenged other real estate investors, developers, banks, corporates, insurance, and provident funds to continue investing in modern infrastructure for housing, commercial, industrial, and SME enterprises. “This project is also an eye-opener to many and a testimony of how the private sector is complementing my Administration’s efforts to ensure that we use land sparingly,” he said.

Aspire Heights, which intends to follow the Zimbabwe National Human Settlement Policy on Densification, has adopted a four-story apartment design.

Each flat features secure parking, playgrounds, fast-speed internet and entertainment connections, and bicycle parking, drying areas, private refuse collection, among other amenities.

President Mnangagwa emphasized that investing in real estate development and infrastructure helps to realize optimum and sustainable value from rapid urbanization.

“Let us broadly invest to realize optimum and sustainable value from rapid urbanization. The provision of high-speed internet connections by Oxford Properties complements my government efforts to mainstream science, technology, and innovation amongst learners,” he said.
